Boy vs Sprite

This initial Boy Vs Sprite thing was based on a very real situation I’m sure everyone who played Secret of Mana “co-operatively” encountered. Whenever a chest would show up, everyone would abandon their duties and race to get it first. Although you couldn’t hurt other players, it certainly led to some people getting killed by monsters that should have been dealt with first. The world really could use some more co-op action RPGs. This is also one of the ones I put up on Newgrounds that was actually rated pretty good. I’m gonna take some advice from the comments and say this one is actually pretty good!

Fighter vs Black Mage

Here’s an oldie and not necessarily a goodie. This is the first thing I ever made (that I uploaded to the internet). Unbelievably basic work on display here. It’s funny that one of the frames for the Black Mage has tiny white pixels at corners where I was trying to edit out an overfill in MS Paint. Another interesting note, this is made at the default width and height for a Flash project circa version 4 (400 by 300 for those curious). Didn’t even take the frame into consideration. Very rudimentary stuff. At the time, I was probably very proud of it. We were all young once. Except for those who are young currently.

Zombie 2

Alright, we’re back!

Continuing in descending order of how much I like them, next comes Zombie 2. This is the largest file-size-wise short I made. Not the biggest in length or the most intricate tweening, just file size. There’s some good timing and a little use of ease in/out in this one. It’s starting to look a little professional. I wonder what might have happened if I had stuck with it instead of programming? This one ends with an OCR song from IronSword that I still really like.

Zombie

This one ain’t so bad. While re-watching it, I was surprised by how much I liked it. Except for the song in the ending. Can’t remember much about the process other than I put a lot of pieces of this together on a laptop floating across Puget Sound on a ferry to school. It is really hard to work in Flash using a laptop track pad. Additionally, it’s not clear what the intended title of this one is, so I opted for the title that is not a trademarked character belonging to a huge multinational corporation.

Super Mario Blitz

Just for a moment, I would like to reiterate how complex and extensible this brave new world is. I’ve been observing it from the outside for a long time, but you don’t really get a feel for all the moving parts out there. It’s almost like the internet is a real thing you can program useful creations for. Far from the days of manually editing and uploading an HTML file. Shocking.

I figure I should start with the one I am most proud of so then it can be all downhill from there. Super Mario Blitz happened sometime around January 2003. It’s unclear and maybe someone should have kept better records. Maybe when the old site’s archives back up it will have some answers. Anyway, I thought that this was created over a summer break when I reversed my sleep schedule to sleep during the day and do everything at night. That is obviously wrong, though, because I put this up at Newgrounds in February ’03. Maybe it was made over a Christmas break. Can’t remember. This was the project that made me realize that I vastly prefer music-action synchronicity, and I should probably just make music videos to songs I like. It also features my little brother who is now eight God damn years older than he was then and has a beard.

The Internet is Complicated Now

Hello to anyone who is still around. Sorry for being a continual disappointment.

In the intervening years since I last did anything notable, the internet has briskly rushed past me into the future of now. The World Wide Web is crazy different.  There’s Facebooks and Twitters and Tumblrs and so on. Why don’t I just use one of those? Why resurrect a silly old domain? What am I going to do?

What do I hope to accomplish? I don’t know yet.

I’m working on short term, moment-to-moment goals. Goal number one was “modernize web site.” Accomplished. Everything has been wiped clean and I will add back as time permits. There were some extremely odd things going on here and I figured it would be best to start fresh. My next immediate goal is to put the Flash shorts back up in an acceptable format.

We’ll see how it goes from there.
